If you have ever wondered how to learn from your past mistakes in a way that is entertaining and colourful, then Felix Le Freak Presents Men and Other Problems is an unexpected comedic one-person show that explores how men shaped a character called ‘Sloppy Songbird’ into the woman she is today.

Le Freak created a really interesting storyline for ‘Sloppy Songbird’, as they followed our queen on a journey of self-discovery, love, and starting over again on the Spanish Coast, whilst setting up their own bar; Casa Del Culo. It involved exploring, finding love, and many fun adventures with various men. Sometimes learning the hard way. It was, however, a little long in places and needed trimming down for a more slick experience as the story developed. Having said that, without giving too much away, the choices made were understandable from the first scene as ‘Sloppy’ expected us to sing with her almost immediately with placing the audience as holiday makers who had been at the venue for two weeks. Whilst we did warm into it, perhaps if that section was swapped with the opening scene of Act 2, it would enable a smoother experience.
Despite this, Le Freak created a character that was engaging and full of optimism despite being knocked down by love. The way they made popular songs such as Copacabana, Living La Vida Loca and Mi Chica Latino fit the plot was humourous and well crafted to the point of the innuendos flowing like water and the warmth of Le Freak’s tone shine through each punchline and serious moments that balanced out ‘Sloppy’s’ character well.
There were many revelations with each lover, such as a Spaniard who used ‘Sloppy’ for revenge porn and a Bohemian who loved adventure and clubbing too much. There are many more, but to meet the men who broke our heroine’s heart, you need to see the show to witness a very interesting reveal as the plot progresses.
Felix Le Freak presents Men & Other Problems is a show that has a lot of heart, colour, and spirit that shines in Le Freak’s performance. With a small trim, this could be a show that is perfectly full to the brim with all you could wish for in Drag, Comedy, Musical Theatre and more. Not to be missed.
