The 1980s Punk Movement is back! And not a moment too soon! David Hoyle is a Drag Cabaret artist who creates an event like no other. One that challenges the world as it is today with honesty and no holds barred, whilst creating a safe space for everyone to experience love and only love whilst being authentically themselves.
(C) Lee BaxterHoyle created a one-off event that turned into a delightfully concocted mixture of a Ted Talk, a mystical sense as he honed in on his audience, and a rebellious, punk, anarchistic comedy set that made us rethink the world as it currently is. The way he delivered each punchline was so meticulous and well thought out, that it was clear to see that unlike a lot of Drag artists today who seem to be unfocussed in their material, Hoyle was one that cared for his audience so much that he not only was direct in all he had to say, but was not afraid to carry himself off script that he was able to get to know his audience in his interactions.
When he focussed on anyone he was drawn to, he made you feel as if you were the only person he was interested in. It felt genuine and safe to allow ourselves to let go of our outside worries and open up to all that Hoyle delivered to us. Whether it was a strong punchline or a mindful, inclusive observation, the love he had for his audience was beyond anything I have ever experienced. The energy raised as he had one message. Love is love! Even if some of his suggestions to switch off and elevate our worth were unorthodox, that was the release we all craved and needed. This is a very hard thing to achieve in today’s PC culture, but Hoyle did it with strength and artistic flare.
David Hoyle: Mayday! Mayday! is alternative, funny, glamourous and an absolute masterclass in how Drag should be done. We need more people on the circuit like Hoyle, so please, keep an eye out for him and go and be free under his guidance and empowering experience in future shows.
